Guillermo Areas

Head Government Relations and External Affairs Representative Office Latin America and the Caribbean at BMW

Guillermo Areas is head of government relations and external affairs for Latin America and the Caribbean at BMW Group. He has previously held positions at renowned companies such as Bayer and DHL. One of his key focus areas is engaging with government, institutions, and civil society in promoting and developing the adoption of electric mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean. He has actively worked developing conditions for electric vehicles in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, and other markets.


He is also a member of the International Advisory Board of the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide (AIPG) and is a member of the BMW Foundation, Responsible Leaders Network. Guillermo holds an MBA from Thunderbird, School of Global Management, a bachelor’s in international relations from Florida International University, which he attended under an Organization of American States Academic Scholarship, and an Associate degree in Political Science from Miami Dade College.


Guillermo is from Nicaragua and lives in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. He is married and has four children.
