Since 2019, The Trust for the Americas and AES Dominicana Foundation have been implementing the Potenciando el Emprendimiento Innovador project in the Dominican Republic. This initiative strengthens local businesses under the paradigm of the Low Touch Economy, using a hybrid training model that combines in-person Bootcamps and virtual training sessions. The project has impacted municipalities such as Quisqueya, Boca Chica, and San Antonio de Guerra, reaching a diverse group of people, 85% of whom are women. It fosters creativity, innovation, and adaptability to ensure the success of small businesses.

Indigenous communities in Latin America face significant barriers in digital transformation, such as limited access to technology and digital skills. In Mexico, states like Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas stand out for their high indigenous population and higher poverty rates. With the support of Microsoft Philanthropies, POETA DigiSpark, led by The Trust for the Americas in collaboration with AMEXTRA and Celamex, empowers Mixtec and Tlapanec communities through tailored training, translation into native languages, and access to seed capital. This initiative strengthens entrepreneurship and digital skills, helping these communities overcome challenges and thrive in the digital era.

Strengthening the Innovative Entrepreneurship, led by The Trust for the Americas and Cemex, aims to empower 100 entrepreneurs, focusing on women in Maceo and La Susana, Antioquia. Based on a successful Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico model, the project offers hybrid training and mentorship in business, technological, and commercial skills. It fosters innovation and strengthens microenterprises, driving the local economy and improving the quality of life in underserved communities.

Since 2018, AES Puerto Rico and The Trust for the Americas have been driving economic recovery on the island through social intervention projects. These projects strengthen entrepreneurship through hybrid training, mentoring, and seed capital, leveraging information technology and artificial intelligence. Thanks to this methodology, we have impacted communities in at least 40 municipalities, such as Guayama, Salinas, and Ponce, promoting local economic development.

N.C.B ICON LAB

In 2019, The Trust for the Americas, in partnership with the N.C.B. Foundation and MICO University, launched the N.C.B. ICON Lab in Jamaica. This space provides young people aged 16 to 30 with access to technology and training in digital, business, and leadership skills, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset. ICON, which stands for innovative, creative, exceptional, and nationalist, drives the development of change agents in vulnerable communities by integrating innovation, employment, and entrepreneurship.

VIVE - Come, Get Inspired, and Sell

The VIVE Project (Come, Get Inspired, and Sell), supported by Walmart Foundation and led by The Trust for the Americas in partnership with Fundación ManpowerGroup, has empowered economically disadvantaged Mexican women since 2016. Targeting women aged 15 and older from low-income backgrounds, the project has operated in 184 municipalities across 28 states, providing training in sales, customer service, entrepreneurship, leadership, and gender-based violence prevention. The goal is to expand economic opportunities for women and prevent violence against women and girls.

In June 2021, The Trust for the Americas, in collaboration with the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) and with the support of Citi Foundation, launched the DIA Lab in Trinidad and Tobago. This innovation lab, the first organization in the country, aims to empower young innovators to develop disruptive and low-cost solutions, promoting sustainable economic opportunities through training, skills development, and access to advanced technology.

As part of a regional network, it aims for more dynamic communities and a promising future for participants through disruptive solutions.

In 2016, Citi Foundation and Trust for the Americas launched the Urban Lab for Youth Innovation in Jamaica. This regional initiative fosters innovation and empowers young people aged 16 to 29 with training in entrepreneurship, mentoring, and access to technology to create low-cost, high-impact solutions. In 2020, digital literacy and future skills were incorporated, boosting employability and sustainable development in Caribbean communities.

The Trust for the Americas and the Fundación Microfinanzas BBVA, USAID, and Bancamía launched the Empropaz Project in Colombia with Impulso Digital. This program strengthened businesses by providing training in digital skills and marketing and mentoring. It benefited head-of-household women, Venezuelan migrants, and young people in 11 departments, boosting the digitalization of businesses and online sales. Impulso Digital aimed to empower women entrepreneurs to face challenges and grow in the digital marketplace.

This project involves underserved communities, social actors, and local governments to generate economic opportunities and strengthen governance. The Trust for the Americas drives youth development, connects new skills to the labor market, and fosters multisectoral collaboration to improve public services and democratic innovation.
