The OAS Office for Sustainable Development and the Environment serves as an invaluable resource of expertise in making sure that wherever possible, our programs promote the idea that economic progress in Latin America and the Caribbean need not be at the expense of the environment.

St. Lucia (2005 - 2011)
Caribbean Solar Financing Program
Electricity is more than three times as expensive in the Caribbean as it is in the United States making the alternative of solar energy both desirable and economically practical. In coordination with the OAS Office for Sustainable Development and the Environment, the Trust is managing a loan to the St. Lucia Cooperative Credit League to facilitate and encourage the purchase, through low interest loans, and installation of solar hot water heating systems by middle and lower income homeowners in St. Lucia. If successful, this program will be replicated across the OECS and larger Caribbean.
