In the spring of 2005 we launched a hemispheric partnership with Microsoft through its Unlimited Potential Program to launch technology and job training centers for marginalized persons throughout Latin America. Using adaptive technologies, the job centers provide training to persons with disabilities and other marginalized populations in the use of office related software, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other programs along with job readiness skills (15 centers in eight countries are currently open). We also provide job placement assistance and micro-enterprise planning capacity. In off-hours, the centers are used by the local community for access to the internet and other uses. We believe this partnership between the Trust and Microsoft will have a long lasting impact on the communities they serve and we hope to have at least one POETA center in every country in the hemisphere by 2010.
