This program promotes reconciliation and reduces conflict in Monteria and Valledupar, giving these communities the tools to live together peacefully and improve their lives. Small communities in Colombia are particularly affected by the internal conflict. As a consequence of years of violence, these communities have an atmosphere of tension. Our program, financed by USAID, provides an innovative strategy to promote reconciliation. The program fosters communication and dialogue between community members and provides capacity building for local civil society organizations, governments and journalists.
The goal of the program is to foster change by educating community members on the services provided by local public institutions and NGOs, giving them the resources to promote reconciliation and social inclusion. The Reconciliation program also trains local NGOs working with communities affected by the conflict, teaching them to more effectively promote reconciliation. Capacity building is also offered for the local media to help promote a proactive discussion on the reconciliation process. Finally, the program trains the local governments to carry out the reconciliation process.
