The Trust Humanitarian Award honors the efforts of artists in Latin America and the Caribbean who give time and talent to benefit others. Juanes received the first Trust Humanitarian Award at the Trust/OAS Annual Gala in Washington, DC on November 20, 2008 for his work on behalf of landmine victims in Colombia and around the world.

Washington D.C, November 25, 2008. The Trust for the Americas, a nonprofit affiliate of the Organization of American States (OAS), presented its first Humanitarian Award to seventeen-time LATIN GRAMMY Award winner Juanes. The Award was given by the OAS Secretary General, Jose Miguel Insulza, at the Trust/OAS Gala on November 20th in Washington, DC.
Ambassadors Carolina Barco and Camilo Ospina from Colombia were present as well as Senator Lisa Murkowski from Alaska. They were joined by other Ambassadors to the U.S. and OAS from throughout the Americas, corporate executives and senior OAS officials, who gathered to recognize Juanes for his efforts to help landmine victims in Colombia through his organization, Fundacion Mi Sangre.
Juanes accepted the award, saying “I would like to thank the Trust for the Americas and recognize the work of the Trust in our country [Colombia] through social programs like POETA.” To celebrate the occasion, Juanes played two songs, “Odio por Amor” and one of his biggest worldwide hits, “A Dios le Pido.”
